Sports and Women who LOVE the Game…

In my opinion, there is nothing sexier to a man than meeting a sharp and yet entertaining woman who knows the game. She appears and pulls out a bar stool in a local pub or at an airport bar and starts shooting the shit about sports. She actually knows what she’s talking about. Does this catch a man off guard? You bet it does. Many women look pretty and play the role well but how many actually know the sport and the players? My guess actually is quite a few. I believe that the women who know the game love it for a reason.

Growing up outside of Cleveland, Ohio- I grew up in a dominating household and family full of mostly men and their love for the game. At holiday gatherings at my grandparents the family divided; you were either a Browns or a Steeler fan. It got pretty intense! I was one of the only girls in my neighborhood amongst mostly all boys that knew the difference between a football and a basketball, so it was either sink or swim with the guys and although it seemed like a curse at the time, it taught me some valuable lessons leading me then a few years later to meeting the man I would one day marry who taught me everything else I’d ever need to know about sports and then some.

While most girls my age as a youth were playing Barbies, I was sitting in front of the television patiently anticipating to see who would win the Heisman Trophy Award. You have to have passion for the game, and I did. I grew up outside of Cleveland Ohio and attended all the Browns home games as my father always had tickets. There were days that we froze our asses off in that stadium with the winds blowing off of Lake Eric but the thrill of being there amongst such well know athletes and professionals made me forget all about how cold my feet really were.

I grew up and although I stayed girlie, I still loved sports. Some things just don’t change. I enjoyed the Cleveland Browns, the Indians, Notre Dame, MSU, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Lions, The Colts, Miami Dolphins, The Astros, The Spurs, Rockets, Houston Texans, Grand Rapids Griffins, Grand Rapids Rampage. My personal favorite…the Detroit Pistons; I spent many of games as a season ticket holder watching the Bad Boys rock the house. Those were to days…and what memorable games and play offs! Final 4 games, NBA Playoffs, Golf, Hockey, Indy and Nascar regardless of the sport, I loved them all. Whether it was a Super Bowl or the Fiesta Bowl, the frenzy built as the game got underway. You’re never too old to learn to love the sport. My daughter works in sports marketing for a company in Brooklyn, NY and because of her, along with my nephews who play the game, I am now learning about Lacrosse. Where ever I’ve lived, I found a game to attend. I’ve even made a few friends in the sporting world that play professional ball. Whether it was college ball or pro, I had a fancy for it.

My children live in Manhattan and sure does feel like my second home. I love NYC so I am thrilled to cheer for their locals as if I too were an abiding part of this beautiful city that they now call their permanent home. Regardless of where I’ve lived, or in what city I visit, I always enjoy the events. Does it get any better than this? Sure it does, because now I do something else that I also love, something else that is my passion- I sell panties and lingerie. Honestly I meet more men and athletes in airports. I sat quietly minding my own business as two men next to me sat yapping about sports and as I sat  and listened, (ok, yes eavesdropping)…I couldn’t help but join in to their conversation. You see, their conversation was about the Heisman Trophy winners. They swore up one side and down the other that Earl Campbell won in 1976. Ohhh so close but soooo wrong. That’s when I tapped one of the gentleman on the shoulder and said “Excuse me sir, you’re both wrong!” They looked at me and laughed. They were so sure that they were right and I was dead wrong that I suggested to them that they put their money where their mouth was, as I reached in my handbag, slapped down a hundred-dollar bill, raised my eyebrow, and said, “Are you sure boys?” Needless to say that was the easiest $200 I  made. Everyone knows that Tony Dorsett won in 1976 and that Earl Campbell won in 1977.

The moral of the story here is; please, don’t judge a book by its cover. Don’t assume that because a woman looks classy and is dressed sexy that she hasn’t a clue about sports because just as you think this, a woman will walk into a room, just as I did and prove you wrong. It’s not a curse, in all honesty, men are flattered to meet a woman who can talk sports. I enjoy the game, with my heart and soul, I always have. I love the trivia, and can sing the Heisman winners like singing the A,B,Cs. You see, men love women who are sexy, but when they meet a woman who can carry a conversation with them regarding the game, you’re instantly in an entire different ball park!

What Do the Shoes Have To Do With Cinderella?

We all want the dream, but reality says it doesn’t always happen. Based on this fairy tale, Cinderella is a great example for young girls to follow. In view of hard times, even with those bitchy step sisters, she is still able to be positive. She is hard working and even when others mistreat her, she holds her head high and doesn’t attack them back, she is a true lady. She is her own person and has her strengths and her weaknesses. heck, she even has the right mind to be on time for a curfew, even if she is dancing the night away with the handsome prince. Somewhere hidden in the childhood of every person are fairy tales, and every woman wants the fairy tale ending…

It’s been what seems like an eternity since Cinderella put on that glass slipper and went out in search of her prince. Realistically, modern women started to wonder if the glass slipper was half-empty or half-full. Excuse me BUT…have you seen the shoes girls wear today? They are nothing at all like I ever wore. Back in the day brand names meant nothing. Now if you aren’t wearing Michael Kors, Gucci, Prada, Jimmy Choo (btw, my favorite) or Christian Louboutin some women look down upon you. Excuse me folks, but last time I watched Cinderella she had on old dirty flats. It’s not necessarily the shoe that creates the magic, it’s the confidence of the woman wearing them. Name brand or no brand, your attitude comes across through your every action.

It wasn’t until her fairy godmother came around using her ‘bibbity bobbity boo’ that her feet got so glamorous…without that stoke of magic, she would have never worn those glass slippers. These stilettos that I speak about are strutting shoes; made to last, made to dance the night away and give you 5 extra inches of confidence so you can look anyone in the eye and assert authority.  In comparison then, (my personal comparison) Men are like running shoes…Comforting, supportive, ready to go that extra mile. They intensify and give you energy, they adhere to you and keep you safe, and will always hold us up when we feel when we’re about to fall. “Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it.”  Is that not what a relationship is? How does your shoe fit?

 What is going to happen when this modern-day woman takes off her sexy strutting shoes at the end of the night and all she has are sore feet with no one to rub them? We don’t have a stroke of midnight curfew. Instead, there are times when we come home from another long day stand feeling worthlessly “empowered” (with BOTH shoes on) and no hope of Prince Charming returning a shoe to us. We all see the fairy tales rise and fall around us. Today, people are more shocked by the mythical “happy loving couple” than the ones with the drama and infidelity. Every day, relationships are becoming obsolete…but that does not mean that you should give up. As a hopeless romantic, I truly believe that still with all the BS you hear, there is a prince for everyone.

 Before you consider buying one more pair of expensive killer stiletto designer shoes, an outfit guaranteed “to turn his head” and a bottle of wine for that “get over him” party with your girlfriends, get out there and get your feet wet! My prince charming obviously took a wrong turn and got lost somewhere in that dark forest. Don’t let waiting for that one man stop you. Live your life. My grandmother used to say that love finds you when you least expect it to. Soooo, how do you get started? Well, geez, even Cinderella had a plan, and you should too!

 The Plan: If you did everything right up to this point you should both be planning a night out. Truth is if women and men did everything right I wouldn’t be writing this, but let’s just assume, shall we? Here is where it sometimes goes wrong… Guys- you ask a woman, “So what do you like to do?” Most of the time her response starts with, “I don’t know” and is followed by a list of cliché first date ideas. At this point most men will dim their creative side and go into standard mode. It’s true! Girlfriend…you just sent the message that you are a common woman who desires common dates. That’s exactly what you will get. Why not share your interests, he might enjoy them. Tell him your favorite places and things to do. It helps!

And fellas…contrary to popular belief, don’t expect women to put out because you took us out. Cinderella and her Prince Charming did not engage in premarital sex. Interesting concept! But why do modern-day Cinderella’s feel like sex is the only way to catch a man’s attention? DO NOT use sex to try to control him.One thing I have learned over the years is, that you can’t use sex to keep a man!  If he’s into you, he’s into you. Some men keep certain woman around only for the sex but that’s where it begins and ends. Cinderella was a lady…and you should be too! Sure we all hold that fairy tale within, and who doesn’t want that ‘glass slipper’ but at any age, we all still must live, laugh and love the little girl in us regardless of the make of the shoe…in reality YOU make your own magic!

Usually these are the old, ragged underwear that you have collected through your lifetime that can no longer serve any other purpose. These are the ones that are all stained and tattered. You just cannot seem to get rid of them because they serve their function and keep all your other good underwear from a similar fate.

 Now you have all your panties in there proper places. At this point you are now seeing some of your spaces have less underwear than others in them. More than likely you are now going to go out and fill up each area with its proper amount of panties in that particular style. Sometimes organization can backfire sometimes and cause a spontaneous shopping spree! This time be adventurous and buy something neat. Fill those gaps with different designs of the same cut instead of buying nine pairs of the exact same thing in different colors. Before long you will have so many panties again you will be lost.
